Mangwon-dong, Seoul

Your trip to South Korea cannot be complete without a visit to a traditional market. Spanning a whole street is Mangwon Market, selling everything from freshly made tteok to deep-fried jalapenos. On your way to the market from Mangwon train station, don’t forget to stop by the many, many fruit and vegetable store owners. You could get 2 packets of fresh strawberries for as low as $5! If you continue walking down the street, you will see Mangwon Market, a long street of food vendors lining both sides, each selling something unique. You name it, Mangwon Market probably has it! This market is famous for its stuffed jalapenos, torched marshmallow ice-cream, hotteoks with flavours like cheese and injeolmi and fish cake for as cheap as $0.70/stick. The Mangwon neighbourhood is also perfect for cafe hopping with an abundance of cafes scattered around the area.

Nodeulseom Island, Seoul

As seen in many shows, another must do activity in Seoul is to have a picnic by the Han river. While there are many popular hotspots such as Yeouido and Banpo, don’t skip out on visiting Nodeulsom Island. This small island is located on the Han river and accessible by bus. It is well loved by the locals and isn’t as crowded as other Hangang picnic locations. You also get an uninterrupted view of the sunset! Although it is most common to order delivery when coming here, there is also a convenience store and BHC chicken to get your picnic essentials.

Eunpyeong District, Seoul

Korea is famous for its hanok style houses and did you know that there is another area only 1h away from Seoul’s city centre boasting a bigger and less touristy hanok village? This area is called the Eunpyeong Hanok Village. You wouldn’t believe that this area is still in Seoul because of its peaceful atmosphere. You can walk through these streets at your own leisure, taking your time to explore all the nooks and crannies of this neighbourhood. Apart from the houses, there are museums, a temple and a popular cafe: 1인1상. Even the CU is built into a Hanok house! 1인1상 is both a cafe and restaurant and is 4 stories tall, so you get to enjoy a sweet treat break and good views all in one. Enjoy a cup of coffee on their roof, overlooking the village and mountains behind!

Thinking about taking a day trip outside of Seoul, this is a perfect place for you! Sokcho is a 3 hours bus ride away from Seoul and once here, you’ll be greeted by amazing natural scenery. Escape the bustling city and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of this coastal city. From the beach to the mountains, one day might actually not be enough to explore all that Sokcho has to offer. There’s even a cable car that takes you to the peak of Seoraksan, the third highest mountain in South Korea. As this city is by the ocean, you’ll also be able to eat fresh seafood and unwind at cafes by the beach. Head over to the Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion to capture the perfect photo, especially at sunrise or sunset!
